Shoshone Culture

The Shoshone Indians are a tribe that are full of culture. The Shoshone loved to make beadwork, baskets and paintings. The Shoshone used dryed grass for baskets, berries for paint and shells and other minerals for beads. The Shoshone Indians were also very spiritual tribe of people. The Shoshone believed that nature was their god. They strongly believed in the Sun and Rain dance in which they would dance and shout phrases to the Sun or rain, but not many Shoshone people still believe these beliefs. The Shoshone used a variety of weapons mostly consisting of bows knifes and spears. The Shoshone would use these weapons to hunt and sometimes fight there arch nemesis the Lakota.

Housing

The Shoshone lived in tipis. Their tipis kept them warm in winter, but it was a little on the hot side in the Summer. The tipis were heated with a fire in the Winter and in the Summer the door was always kept open due to the heat. The tipis were made of long slender logs and were covered in animal hide. The tipis had a hole in the top so the smoke from the fire could seep through and a door was placed on the side.

The Shoshone Indians Today

The Shoshone people today are very active in keeping our Earth clean. They have stopped the dumping of Uranium into our rivers and streams.
A lot of Shoshone Indians live off the reservation today, but some Shoshone still live on reservations such as The Shoshone Indian Reservation and The Duckwater Indian Reservation. These reservations are based near Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho. There has been no recent census to determine the population of the Shoshone. As you can tell the Shoshone are a very influential group of people without them America would not at all be the same.
